With the file location open, press the Windows logo key + R, type shell:startup, then select OK. This opens the Startup folder. Windows 11. You can choose which apps will start when you log in to your Windows device. The apps might show in your taskbar or elsewhere—or the apps might start behind the scenes. You can see how much impact each of the apps would have on your startup experience. No Impact: Startup app is disabled.

With Windows Startup Settings you can start Windows in different advanced troubleshooting modes to help you find and fix problems on your PC. Get to Windows Startup Settings in PC settings. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.

Windows 7. The Advanced Boot Options screen lets you start Windows in advanced troubleshooting modes. You can access the menu by turning on your computer and pressing the F8 key before Windows starts. Some options, such as safe mode, start Windows in a limited state, where only the bare essentials are started.

Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Startup. Select the icon next to the On / Off toggle for an app. Note: Apps installed through Microsoft Store (.MSIX apps) don’t have these icons. If you select the icon for these apps, File Explorer opens and highlights the executable file.

Summary. When you use the Recovery Environment (Windows RE) to troubleshoot startup issues, first try the Startup Repair option in the System Recovery Options dialog box. If this does not resolve the issue, or if you have to manually troubleshoot additional issues, use the Bootrec.exe tool.
