Activate Microsoft 365 or a non-subscription version of Office that's pre-installed on a new Windows device. If this screen appears, a trial version of Microsoft 365 Family or a trial version of a non-subscription version of Office is installed.

Step 1: Go to www.office.com/setup or Microsoft365.com/setup. Step 2: Sign in with your Microsoft account, or create one if you don't have one. Be sure to remember this account so that you can install or reinstall Office later, without a product key.

Resolution. Verify or install the latest updates. You might have to set Windows Update to automatically download and install recommended updates. Installing any important, recommended, and optional updates can frequently correct problems by replacing out-of-date files and fixing vulnerabilities.

Uninstall Microsoft 365 or Office from the Control Panel. Press the Windows logo key (or select the search bar on the taskbar) and type control panel. Select Control Panel from the list of results. Select Programs > Programs and features. Select your Microsoft 365 product and choose Uninstall.
