Use this app to try to recover lost files that have been deleted from your local storage device (including internal drives, external drives, and USB devices) and can’t be restored from the Recycle Bin. Recovery on cloud storage and network file shares is not supported.

Find the Recycle Bin. If your desktop shows no icons at all, right-click (or press and hold) the desktop and select View. If Show desktop icons has no checkmark, click it to add one. If that doesn't work, try this: Select Start > Settings > Personalization > Themes > Desktop icon settings.

If you can't find a file on your computer or you accidently modified or deleted a file, you can restore it from a backup (if you're using Windows backup) or you can try to restore it from a previous version.

Here's how to get the Recycle Bin on your desktop in Windows 10: Select the Start  button, then select Settings . Select Personalization > Themes > Desktop icon settings. Select the Recycle Bin check box > Apply. Notes: To get to desktop icon settings in Windows 8.1, swipe in from the right edge of the screen, then select Search.

Search for your files on OneDrive.com. If you need to search all files and folders, but you have Files On Demand enabled or you're only syncing certain folders, you can do your search online. Sign in to the OneDrive website at https://www.onedrive.com. Use Search everything to look for your files.

If you delete files or folders that you're syncing, you can restore them from the Windows recycle bin on your PC. To put your Windows recycle bin on your desktop, see Show or hide the Recycle Bin . The information in this article also applies to OneDrive (for work or school) files.

Scenario 1: You're missing a file, folder, or item from a list or library. Scenario 2: You've deleted a file or a folder and want to recover it. Scenario 3: Your library contains corrupted versions of files that you cannot open, and you want to recover working versions of the files.

To restore files from your Recycle Bin in Windows, open the Recycle Bin, select the files or folders you want to recover, then right-click them and select Restore. The file or folder will be restored to its original folder.

If any OneDrive files or folders were deleted, overwritten, corrupted, or infected by malware, you can restore your entire OneDrive to a previous time. If you don't want to restore everything, you can also restore deleted files from the OneDrive recycle bin or restore a previous version of a file.
