To install either the 32 or 64-bit version of Microsoft 365, Office 2021, or Office 2019, follow the steps in Install Office on a PC. Important: If you install the 64-bit version, but want the 32-bit version instead, you must first uninstall the 64-bit version before installing the 32-bit version.

To fix this error and switch from 32-bit to 64-bit (or vice-versa), you must do the following in this order. Uninstall Office. Go to Uninstall Office from a PC and follow the steps to uninstall the version of Office (or stand-alone Office application, such as Visio or Project) you don't want.

In this case, the 32-bit version of Microsoft 365 or Office will be installed instead. To change from a 32-bit version to a 64-bit version or vice versa, you need to uninstall Microsoft 365 first (including any stand-alone Microsoft 365 apps you have such as Project of Visio).

Select the Microsoft 365 folder from the virtual drive and then double-click either the Setup32.exe to install the 32-bit version of Microsoft 365, or Setup64.exe to install the 64-bit version to begin the offline installation. Make sure all versions of Microsoft 365 are either 32-bit or 64-bit. You can’t have a mix of both. See “Office (64-bit or 32-bit) couldn’t be installed” error when trying to install. Keep in mind that even if you follow these recommendations, you might still run into issues when you use two versions of Microsoft 365 on the same PC.
