Symptoms

When you try to set a user's home folder path by using a non-exist shared folder path in the Active Directory Users and Computers Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in on a computer that is running Windows Server 2012 R2 or Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1), you receive the following error message:

The home folder could not be created because: The network name cannot be found.

You expect that the configuration can be deployed and you can receive a warning to indicate that the folder may not exist. NoteThis issue also occurs when you set the home folder path in Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (AD LDS) in Windows 7 SP1.

Resolution

To resolve this issue for Windows Server 2012 R2, install update 2919355.To resolve this issue for Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2, install the hotfix that is described in this article.
