Note Learn about the fix for this problem for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

Symptoms

Assume that you use Microsoft Office 365 on a computer that's running Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, or Windows Server 2012 R2. When you use Microsoft Outlook to connect to Office 365 Exchange servers, Outlook displays a "Trying to Connect" or "Disconnected" status for a time period of five minutes to an hour or more.

Cause

This problem occurs because individual function calls in the remote procedure call (RPC) over the HTTP connection take a long time to return. Additionally, these calls pile up under heavy-load scenarios. This pile-up situation causes the call-return process to take even longer.
