Symptoms

You try to play a media file (such as an .mp3, .wma, or .aac file) for the first time on a device that is running Windows 10 Version 1511 or Windows 10 Version 1607. If you use a Microsoft Store application, such as the Groove application, the media file does not play. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

Can't play.

We can't find an audio device. Make sure headphones or speakers are connected. For more info, search your device for "Manage audio devices."

Workaround

To work around this issue, try to play the media file again, or restart the device and then try to play the media file.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
