Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • In Microsoft Visio 2010, you use a custom query to link to a SharePoint List data source.

  • You create a Visio 2010 file, and you link records in the SharePoint List data source to shapes in Visio 2010.

  • You publish the file as a Visio Web Drawing (*.vdw) on a server that is running Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010.

In this scenario, Visio Services in SharePoint Server 2010 may not display the shapes correctly. For example, the shapes may be linked to different records.

Cause

This issue occurs because Visio Services in SharePoint Server 2010 does not support queries against SharePoint List data sources.

Note Additionally, Visio Services in SharePoint Server 2010 does not support queries against Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Encarta Class Server data sources.

Workaround

To work around this issue, import the data into a Microsoft SQL Server database, and then use the SQL Server database as the data source.
