Microsoft prohibits the sharing of non-consensual intimate imagery (NCII) on its services.  If an intimate image of you was published without your consent, you can request its removal under our longstanding NCII policies, and the US Take It Down Act (TIDA). This process helps identify, remove, and prevent the spread of this content in the latest versions of Microsoft Teams Free. An overview of Microsoft’s comprehensive approach to NCII can be found at this blog post.  

Microsoft will evaluate the request, and content will be removed if it violates the Microsoft Code of Conduct or the Teams Community Standards.​​​​​​​ Additional information on our policies can be found on our Digital Safety site

If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, contact local law enforcement or emergency services. 

Note: Use of report a concern is subject to the Microsoft Services Agreement.

What can be reported 

You can report a concern for removal under our policies and/or local law for content that: 

  • Shows you (or someone you are legally authorized to represent), in an identifiable manner, nude or engaged in sexually explicit conduct 

  • Was shared without your consent or captured in a private setting. This includes images or videos that you may have originally consented to create, but did not consent to have shared 

  • Is an authentic, digitally altered, or AI—generated image  

Important: Intimate imagery involving a person under the age of 18 is treated as child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Microsoft reports CSAM to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), and associated accounts may be permanently restricted. 

What you can submit  

You must submit NCII removal requests through Report a concern found in Teams Free.  

Reports may be submitted by the person who is depicted in the image, or by someone authorized to submit on their behalf. You can submit one report for each image or video you want reviewed. 

Information Included in the Report

When a concern is reported on a message in a chat or community 

Microsoft will receive the message information, time, identifier of the reporter of the concern, category of concern, and notes from the submission.  

Note: For group chats, the last ten messages and the group profile picture will be sent in the submission. 

When a concern is reported on a group chat or group chat invite 

Microsoft will receive the conversation thread information, last ten messages. time, identifier of the reporter of the concern, category of concern, and notes from the submission.  

When a concern is reported regarding a user's profile picture 

Microsoft will receive the identifier of the reported user, time, identifier of the reporter of the concern, category of concern, and notes from the submission.    When a concern is reported on a community 

Microsoft will receive the community's name, website link, description, guidelines, banner image, identifiers of the community owners, identifier of the reporter of the concern, category of concern, and notes from the submission. 

When to report a concern in for images and videos stored in OneDrive 

If there is a OneDrive link to an image or video, reporting a concern may not work within Teams. This can happen when the file or image wasn’t first opened in OneDrive. To report this file or image, open the image or video in OneDrive that is in the Shared section of OneDrive, and report a concern directly in OneDrive. Learn more about how to report a concern in OneDrive. 

What to expect after you submit a request 

After your request is submitted: 

  • Microsoft reviews the report to determine whether the content qualifies for removal of applicable policies, such as Microsoft Code of Conduct or the Teams Community Standards, or under local law.

  • If the content violates Microsoft policy or applicable law, steps are taken to restrict access or remove it.
