Career Coach is a Microsoft Teams for Education app powered by LinkedIn that provides personalized guidance for higher education students to navigate their career journey.

Welcome to Career Coach

Career Coach empowers you to discover your career path, grow real-world skills, and build your network. You’ll get guidance that is personalized to your education, skills, and interests.  

With Career Coach, you can explore careers and learning opportunities. You’ll find courses from your educational institution, LinkedIn Learning, and Microsoft. You can identify your skills and learn about skills that are in demand. When you’re ready, connect with alumni, faculty, staff, and peers to build a strong professional network and get advice when you need it.

This guide has step-by-step instructions to get started. You’ll learn how to set up your profile so Career Coach can personalize guidance based on the information you add. You’ll also get best practices for using the app. If you don’t have everything needed for your profile, it’s not a problem. Use the guide to start exploring with Career Coach and complete your profile any time.

Get started checklist:

  • Computer, laptop, or mobile device

  • Office 365 account

  • Microsoft Teams

  • LinkedIn account

  • Your resume or an informal copy of your transcript in PDF or DOC format to upload to the app.

Tip: You can create or refine your resume or LinkedIn profile with Career Coach. Go to the Dashboard. Select Goals and choose relevant activities

Start your career journey

Go to Career Coach

  1. Open Teams and find Career Coach on the navigation bar.

  2. Your Office 365 account is used to sign in. 

    Tip: If the app doesn't appear in your Teams navigation, select More added apps ••• > search Career Coach. Right-click or press and hold on the app icon. Select Pin to add the app. If you need help, ask your IT admin or a faculty member.

Set up your profile

Add your education, resume or transcript, and connect to LinkedIn to complete your profile.  

  1. On the homepage, select Get started.

  2. Answer a few questions about yourself.

Add a resume or transcript

  1. Select Profile and choose Skills Explorer.

    Note: Skills Explorer identifies your skills from your resume or classes you’ve taken at your current educational institution. Your skills are added to your profile automatically.  

  2. Select Import file and choose either your resume or transcript. 

    Note: Resumes and transcripts aren't required. Adding one will personalize some of the guidance you get. When you gain new experiences, upload a new version of your document to keep your profile current. 

  3. Select resume or transcript for Document type and choose Upload and continue

  4. Review your skills under My skills. You can remove any you don't want to refine your list.

Connect your LinkedIn account

  1. Go to the bottom of the Profile page and select Connect my LinkedIn account.

  2. Enter your LinkedIn username and password.

  3. Select Yes, let's go! to connect your account.

    Tip: Select Dashboard > Goals > Build my Linkedln presence and choose activities to share your story and more on LinkedIn.

Learn how to use Career Coach 

Set goals and track your progress

The Dashboard has career-related goals and activities to reach those goals. The app tracks your progress so you always know how you’re doing.

To start choosing goals and activities: 

  1. Select Dashboard.

  2. Under My goals, select a goal from the dropdown menu.

  3. Select an activity. When you complete it, add a checkmark next to it. Then choose another activity or goal you want to work on.

    Tip: To learn about an activity, select the information icon to the right of it. To remove an activity, select the X

Discover your career path

Explore career options that match your skills, interests, and what you're passionate about. 

  1. Select Careers.

  2. Find careers based on the information in your profile. 

  3. In the upper-right corner, select the Filters icon. Choose filters to search by industry, company, location, and more. Select Apply.

  4. You can save careers and the skills listed with them from your search. They'll be added to your profile. Review them any time to help find a career path that's meaningful to you.

Grow real-world skills

Find learning opportunities from your educational institution, Linkedln Learning, and Microsoft. 

  1. Select Learn.

  2. View courses based on the information in your profile.

  3. Select courses you want to take and start learning.

  4. In the upper-right corner, select the Filters icon. Choose filters and search for more courses to keep learning and growing real-world skills.

Build your network

Be inspired by the career journeys and experiences of alumni, peers, faculty, and staff. Then, start making connections. 

  1. Select People.  

  2. Find people who share your field of study, skills, and more. 

  3. In the upper-right corner, select the Filters icon. Search people by industry, company, location, and more. Select Apply.

  4. Save skills you want to learn from people's profiles. The skills you save are added to your profile.

  5. When you're ready, connect with people on LinkedIn and Microsoft Teams to build a network of advisors and mentors who can help you in your career journey.
