Windows Monthly Rollups and Security-only updates

Certain versions of Windows have reached the end of support. Devices running the following versions of Windows will no longer receive Monthly Rollup or Security-only updates that contain protection from the latest security threats. To continue receiving security and quality updates, we recommend upgrading to the latest version of Windows or Windows Server. 

Windows versions that have reached the end of support include the following:

Monthly Rollups ended

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

  • Windows Server 2008 SP2

Security-only updates ended

  • Windows Server 2012 R2

  • Windows Server 2012

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

  • Windows Server 2008 SP2

Internet Explorer Cumulative Updates

Internet Explorer Cumulative Updates (IECU) have reached the end of support for the following:

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

  • Windows Server 2008 SP2

Microsoft Internet Explorer reached the end of support for certain Windows operating systems. To continue receiving security and quality updates, we recommend that you upgrade to Microsoft Edge. Windows Embedded

Windows Embedded as included in Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012, and Windows Server 2008 R2 have reached the end of support for the following:

  • Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Enterprise

  • Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Pro

  • Windows Embedded 8 Standard

  • Windows Embedded Standard 7

  • Windows Embedded POSReady 7

About Extended Security Updates

Extended Security Updates (ESUs) have ended for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Extended Security Updates on Azure ended on January 9, 2024.

Extended Security Updates (ESUs) are available for Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2. Monthly Rollups will continue during ESU duration until the end date of October 13, 2026.
