Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You install a cumulative update for Microsoft Lync 2010 that was released in June 2012.

  • A Lync 2010 user in an organization that is not federated with your organization creates a Lync Online meeting.

  • You sign in to your Lync 2010 client and try to join the meeting.

In this scenario, you cannot join the meeting. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

An error occurred during the online meeting.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Domain Name System (DNS) lookup on the Lync 2010 client returns unexpected results when you try to join the online meeting.

Note If a USB audio device is connected to the computer when you join the meeting, a timing issue that occurs between the USB device and the Lync 2010 client causes the issue described in the Symptoms section.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, install the following cumulative update:

2791382 Description of the cumulative update package for Lync 2010: March 2013
