Symptoms

When you use Business Portal together with Microsoft Dynamics GP or Microsoft Dynamics SL, you receive the following error message in one or more Web parts:

One of the properties of the Web Part has an incorrect format. Windows SharePoint Services cannot deserialize the Web Part. Check the format of the properties and try again.

Cause

This problem may be caused by incorrectly set permissions. Typically, this problem occurs because the STS_WPG/WSS_WPG user group does not have sufficient permissions.

Resolution

Verify that the following user groups have the minimum permissions that are required for the Windows folder, for the Windows\Temp folder, and for the Windows\system32\logfiles folder. The following table lists the minimum permissions that are required:

Note You only have to set permissions for the Network Service user group on a domain controller.

To view or to change the permissions for a folder, follow these steps:

  1. Start Windows Explorer.

  2. Right-click the folder for which you want to view the permissions, and then click Properties.

  3. Click the Sharing tab, click Share this Folder, and then click Permissions.

  4. If the group or the user name whose permissions you want to view or to update exists, go to step 5. If the group or the user name does not exist, follow these steps:

    1. Click Add.

    2. Type STS_WPG or WSS_WPG, depending on your version of SharePoint, or type the group or the user whose permissions you want to view or update.

    3. Click Check Names, and then click OK.

  5. Select the group or the user name whose permissions you want to view or to update.

  6. In the Permissions area, click to select the check boxes for the minimum permissions that are required.

After you reset the permissions, close the Web browser, and then restart Business Portal.
