Symptoms

Consider the following scenario

  • You assign a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) address to a user in a Microsoft Lync Server 2013 environment.

  • The address contains a reserved character, such as an ampersand. For example, the address is test.us&er@company.com.

  • The user signs in to a client for Lync by using the URI address in the environment.

  • You try to restart the Lync Server 2013 front-end service.

In this scenario, the front-end service cannot restart. Additionally, the following event is logged on Lync Server 2013.

Cause

This issue occurs because the SIP URI that has reserved characters is parsed incorrectly.
