Want to do what you love online and support reforestation? Every time you interact with E-tree on Microsoft Edge, Weather from Microsoft Start, or Microsoft Wallet, you'll earn points to grow a virtual seed into a virtual tree. Once the virtual tree is fully grown, a real tree will be planted on your behalf.

The E-tree program is free to join. To participate on Microsoft Weather and Microsoft Wallet, players must be signed in with a Microsoft account. (Sign in is not required to participate via Microsoft Edge.) When combining points earned on Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Weather, and Microsoft Wallet, sign in is required.

You can earn water points by visiting and completing daily tasks on Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Wallet, and energy points by visiting and completing daily tasks on Microsoft Weather. When you reach 10,000 points (water or energy points, or combined), Microsoft will work with its sustainability partner, Eden Reforestation Projects, to plant a real tree on your behalf. You need to earn 20,000 points to plant your second tree, 30,000 points to plant a third tree, 40,000 points to plant a fourth tree, and 50,000 points to plant a fifth tree and each subsequent tree.

Microsoft has partnered with Eden Reforestation Projects to plant the trees. This organization has already planted more than 900 million trees across 11 countries. Eden Reforestation Projects works closely with local communities to restore native forests on a massive scale while creating jobs, protecting ecosystems, and helping mitigate climate change. Eden Reforestation Projects has received high ratings on Charity Navigator. For more details, visit their website (only available in English).

When done using a scientifically informed methodology, planting trees results in positive environmental impacts, such as ecological restoration and carbon sequestration. Supporting reforestation through a partner like Eden Reforestation Projects also provides local communities with new opportunities for economic self-sufficiency.

The trees will be planted in Mozambique. Mozambique is home to extensive biodiversity and varying landscapes with forests at the core of its social, environmental, and economic well-being. However, more than 8 million hectares of forest (over 30,000 square miles) have been destroyed. Cyclones, floods, cutting down trees for firewood and charcoal, clearing large areas for farmland, and commercial logging are the leading causes of deforestation in Mozambique. The restoration program’s work in Mozambique helps protect coastal communities from environmental disasters, improve fisheries, remove carbon from the atmosphere, and increase biodiversity while addressing the urgent need for fair wage employment.

When you reach 10,000 points (water or energy points, or combined), a real tree will be planted in Mozambique. After each tree is planted, your points will restart at zero. You need to earn 20,000 points to plant your second tree, 30,000 points to plant a third tree, 40,000 points to plant a fourth tree, and 50,000 points to plant a fifth tree. For each subsequent tree after the fifth tree, you'll need to earn 50,000 points.

It depends. If you complete all the tasks daily, it takes about a month to reach level 10.

There is no limit to the number of trees Microsoft will plant as part of this program. We have already planted more than 1 million trees. Help us keep going!
