This article describes an issue that occurs when you use MSBuild projects after you upgrade to Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Update 4. A hotfix is available to resolve this issue. The hotfix has a prerequisite. You must have Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Update 4 installed.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

If this section does not appear, submit a request to Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix. Restart requirement
You may have to restart the computer after you install the hotfix if the affected files are not being used at the time of installation. We recommend that you close all Visual Studio 2012-related components before you install the hotfix.
