Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You create a data source view in Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) that includes a SQL Server data source and an IBM DB2 data source.

  • The SQL Server data source is located on a remote 64-bit SQL Server system.

  • Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2 4.0 is installed on the remote instance of SQL Server and on the system where the data source view is being created.

In this scenario, the query statement that the data source view uses may fail with an error message that resembles the following:

Class not registered

Cause

OLE DB Provider for DB2 4.0 uses a ProgID value of DB2OLEDB.1 when a 32-bit process loads the provider and a ProgID value of DB2OLEDB when a 64-bit process loads the provider. In this scenario, the SQL Server Designer runs as a 32-bit process. Therefore, it passes the DB2OLEDB.1 to the remote SQL Server system. The 64-bit SQL Server process cannot locate the DB2OLEDB.1 class because OLE DB Provider for DB2 4.0 is registered as DB2OLEDB. This situation causes the query to fail because OLE DB Provider for DB2 4.0 cannot be located.
