Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You use Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2 version 4.0 that is included in Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 1.

  • You create a linked server that uses the OLE DB provider to connect to an IBM DB2 database to call DB2 stored procedures.

In this scenario, the call to the DB2 stored procedure fails, and you receive an error message that resembles the following:

OLE DB provider "DB2OLEDB" for linked server linked_server_name returned message "".
Msg 7215, Level 17, State 1, Line 39
Could not execute statement on remote server 'linked_server_name'.
