Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You use Microsoft Visual Studio LightSwitch 2011 to build an application that contains some user-defined tables.

  • You use a Microsoft SQL Azure database as the target database to publish the application.

  • The back-end server of the database has been upgraded to Microsoft SQL Server 2011.

In this scenario, you receive the following error message:

Sql Server version not supported.

Cause

This issue occurs because a version-check operation fails in Visual Studio LightSwitch 2011.

When Visual Studio LightSwitch 2011 publishes to a database, it performs a version check to determine the version of the server. However, the version check is performed incorrectly. Therefore, the version check on the upgraded back-end server fails, and the issue that is described in the "Symptoms" section occurs.
