Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:
-
You run Microsoft System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager Service Pack 1 on Windows Server 2012.
-
You have two EMC Storage Area Network (SAN) storage arrays that are managed by one EMC Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S) provider.
-
You create one logical unit number (LUN) on the first SAN storage array and the additional mirror LUN on the secondary SAN storage array in Virtual Machine Manager.
-
You try to manage the mirror LUN on the secondary storage array in Virtual Machine Manager.
In this scenario, Virtual Machine Manager crashes.
Cause
This problem occurs because Virtual Machine Manager does not handle the LUNs from more than one storage array when the LUN ID on the first LUN is the same on both storage arrays. Virtual Machine Manager does not understand which storage array each LUN belongs to.
Resolution
This hotfix is also available at Microsoft Update Catalog.
Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. To apply this hotfix, you must have Windows Server 2012 installed.

The MANIFEST files (.manifest) and the MUM files (.mum) that are installed for each environment are listed separately in the "Additional file information for Windows Server 2012" section. MUM and MANIFEST files, and the associated security catalog (.cat) files, are extremely important to maintain the state of the updated components. The security catalog files, for which the attributes are not listed, are signed with a Microsoft digital signature.
