MingLIU (新細明體 in Chinese) is a typeface designed for typesetting the Chinese language using the Simplified Chinese script. It is a traditional “serif” style (Ming or Song) with thin strokes; it has moderate contrast between thick strokes and thin strokes, and triangular “serifs” at the end of many of the strokes. It is a readable typeface for body text or headlines.
MingLIU was designed by DynaComware Corp. It has only one weight, with no italic style. In addition to Simplified Chinese characters, the font includes Japanese hiragana and katakana, bopomofo, and a variety of symbols, as well as capitals and lowercase letters for the Latin, Greek, and Cyrillic alphabets.
MingLIU has four variations: MingLIU, MingLIU-ExtB, MingLIU_HKSCS, and MingLIU_HKSCS-ExtB. MingLIU_-ExtB includes rare and historic CJK ideographs for Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese. MingLIU_HKSCS includes Traditional Chinese characters used in Hong Kong SAR and Taiwan; MingLIU_HKSCS-ExtB also includes rare and historic CJK ideographs for Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese.
