How do I check I’m running the latest version of Your Phone?

Updates will be installed automatically if this option is enabled on your Android device and PC. To ensure a smooth experience, we recommend updating to the latest version of the Your Phone app where available. Before doing this, ensure both your Android device and PC are connected to Wi-Fi.

On your Android device

  1. Open the Your Phone Companion app or Link to Windows app, depending on your device.

  2. Tap Settings.

  3. Tap Check for Updates.

  4. Wait for the update to complete successfully, then close and reopen the Your Phone app.

On your PC

  1. Open the Microsoft Store.

  2. Search for Your Phone.

  3. If an update is available to you, you will see an Update button. Select Update and wait for the update to complete successfully, then select Launch.

You can also try this:

  1. Open the Microsoft Store.

  2. Select More … (located next to your Microsoft account picture).

  3. Select Downloads and Updates.

  4. If a Your Phone update is available, you will see an Update button. Select Update and wait for the update to complete successfully, then select Launch.

It can take a few minutes for the updates to be recognized by the app. If the Your Phone app is still indicating an update is needed, wait a few minutes, then restart your Android device. On your PC, close and reopen the Your Phone app.

How do I check I’m using the same Microsoft account to sign into my Your Phone apps?

In order to successfully link your PC and Android device, you should sign in to the same Microsoft account on both. You can check this by following these steps:

On your PC:

  1. Open your browser and go to Sign in with your Microsoft account.

  2. Check if your Android device is listed under your account information.

On your Android device:

  • If you have the Your Phone Companion app:

    • Go to Settings > Accounts.

  • If you have the Link to Windows app (for select Samsung devices):

    • Go to Settings > Advanced features > Link to Windows.

    • Review the email address under Microsoft account.

How can I change language settings?

The Your Phone app will match the language settings used on your PC and across all your apps. If you'd like to change the default language, here's how:

On your PC:

  1. Go to Settings  > Time & Language > Language > Preferred languages.

  2. Select “+Add a language.

  3. Choose a language to install, select Next, and follow the instructions to install it.

    • You only need to select the options for Install a language pack & Text-to-speech and can leave Set as my Windows display language unchecked if you only want to change the language settings of your apps.

  4. Select your newly downloaded language and select the up arrow  to make sure apps appear in the language you just downloaded.

  5. Close the Your Phone app on your PC. Open the Microsoft store app, check for updates, and download the latest version of Your Phone app.

  6. Restart the Your Phone app. It should now be in the language you downloaded above.

If you already have multiple languages listed under your Preferred language in Settings , you can change your language preference by moving the desired language to the top. You need to close and reopen the Your Phone app every time you choose a different language from this list.

Your Android language settings are set independently in the device's system settings.

Can I use the Your Phone app with multiple phones or PCs?

Can I use more than one Android device with the Your Phone app?

Yes. It is possible to link more than one Android device to the Your Phone app. Make sure you're using the same Microsoft account across all your devices, Your Phone, and the companion app on your Android device. This will be the Your Phone Companion (YPC) app for most Android devices, or the Link to Windows (LTW) app pre-installed on the Surface Duo and select Samsung devices.

Follow these steps to add additional device(s):

On your Android device:

  1. Sign in to your new Android device by using the same Microsoft account that's on your PC. This will create the link between your device and the Your Phone app.

  2. Once you’ve completed the Your Phone app setup process with your new Android device, close and restart the Your Phone app.

  3. Open Your Phone app Settings and select your new device using the device drop-down list.

Can I use the Your Phone app with multiple PCs?

Yes, you can connect your device to multiple PCs at the same time.

On your second PC:

  1. In the search box on the taskbar, search for your phone and select the Your Phone app from the results.

  2. You’ll be asked to sign into your Microsoft account. You'll need to sign in to the same Microsoft account on your PC and Android device in the Your Phone Companion or Link to Windows app (depending on which Android device you have) to link your devices.

  3. Once you’ve completed the Your Phone app set up process, you’ll receive a notification on your Android device prompting you to Allow the connection.

If I'm sharing my PC with other people, how do I protect my Your Phone data (pictures, text messages, etc.)?

Microsoft strongly encourages having a separate Microsoft account for each user of a PC in order to protect each person's data appropriately. This would protect both your Your Phone data and all other data on the PC.

For details on creating accounts, see Add accounts on your PC.

Can I use the Your Phone app as a non-default user or two phone mode user (available in Korea only)?

You may encounter two phone mode if your mobile provider is in Korea. The Your Phone app does not currently support two phone mode or multiple profiles mode. Please contact your mobile provider to disable two phone mode so you can use the Your Phone app.

If you have multiple profiles on your mobile device, the Your Phone app will only work if your mobile device is set to the default profile.

Does the Your Phone app support iPhone and iPad?

Yes. To link your iPhone and Windows PC, you will be asked to install Microsoft Edge or Continue on PC as the companion app on your mobile device. Once you're signed in, you'll be able to instantly send web pages from your iPhone to your PC.
