How to move Microsoft FRx 6.7 to a new server

INTRODUCTION

Note In the following procedure, the existing server is "Server A." The new server is "Server B."

1. Make a complete backup of the Microsoft FRx SysData folder on Server A. To do this, follow these steps:

   1. Determine the location of the SysData folder. To do this, follow these steps:

      1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to FRx 6.7, and then click Report Designer.

      2. Click Admin, and then click Organization.

      3. Click SysData.

      4. Note the path in the Current Directory box.

   2. Have all users exit all Microsoft FRx applications on Server A.

   3. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer.

   4. In Windows Explorer, locate the SysData folder that you noted.

   5. Make a backup copy of the SysData folder.

2. Take screen shots of the following setup screens in Microsoft FRx. You can refer to these screen shots when you configure Microsoft FRx on Server B. To do this, follow these steps:

   1. Click Company, and then click Information.

      1. Click the first company in the list of companies.

      2. Take screen shots of the Microsoft FRx System Information tab and of the System Specific Information tab.

      3. Repeat these steps for all Microsoft FRx companies.

   2. Click Company, and then click Specification Sets.

      1. Click the first specification set.

      2. Take a screen shot of the specification set information.

      3. Repeat these steps for all specification sets.

   3. Click Admin, and then click Organization.

   4. Take a screen shot of the Organization Information window. You can refer to this screen shot when you register Microsoft FRx on Server B.

   5. Click Admin, click Organization, and then click FRx Security.

      1. Use the same Microsoft FRx Security option on Server B.

      2. If Enable FRx Security is not selected, go to step 5. If Enable FRx Security is selected, you have to take more screen shots. To do this, follow these steps:

         1. Click Admin, and then click Users.

            1. Click the first user in the list, and then take a screen shot.

            2. Take a screen shot of all the users. You can refer to these screen shots to guarantee that the correct settings are assigned to each user on Server B.

         2. Click Admin, and then click Groups.

            1. Click the first group, and then take a screen shot.

            2. If the full list of members is not displayed, scroll down the list. Then, take screen shots of all the members.

            3. Repeat the steps for all Microsoft FRx Security Groups.

         3. Click Admin, point to Security, and then click Secure Companies.

            1. Click the first live Microsoft FRx company in the list, and then take a screen shot.

            2. If the full list of members in the Access Granted list is not displayed, scroll down the list. Then, take screen shots of all the members.

            3. Repeat the steps for all live Microsoft FRx companies.

3. Turn off Microsoft FRx Security. Microsoft FRx Security must be turned off before you move the current Microsoft FRx installation to a new server. To do this, follow these steps:
   
   

   1. Make sure that all users have exited all Microsoft FRx products.

   2. On Server A, click Start, point to All Programs, point to FRx 6.7, and then click Report Designer.

   3. Click Admin, and then click Organization. Enter the Administrator password if you are prompted.

   4. Click FRx Security.

   5. Clear the Use FRx Security check box.

   6. Click OK.

4. Exit Microsoft FRx on Server A.

   Note Before you install a new copy of Microsoft FRx 6.7, we recommend that you follow these steps:

   • Create a new Microsoft FRx 6.7 program folder on Server B.

   • Create a new Microsoft FRx 6.7 shared SysData folder on Server B.

6. Enter the registration keys into the Microsoft FRx 6.7 installation on Server B. To do this, follow these steps:

   1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to FRx 6.7, and then click Report Designer.

   2. Click Admin, and then click Organization.

7. Enter the same Organization Information that you entered on Server A. Use the screen shots that you took as a reference.

8. Create a specification sets in Microsoft FRx on Server B. To do this, follow these steps:

   1. Click Company, and then click Specification Sets.

   2. If the specification set is not named "Default," click New to create a new specification set.

   3. Create the specification set that uses the same name as the specification set on Server A. Use the screen shots that you took as a reference.
      
      Note The path of the .f32 file will now be located in the SysData folder on Server B. However, the file name must be the same as the file name on Server A.

9. On Server B, create the companies in Microsoft FRx. To do this, follow these steps:
   
   

   1. Click Company, click Information, and then click New.

   2. Create the companies. Use the screen shots that you took as a reference.

10. Enable Microsoft FRx Security on Server B. To do this, follow these steps.
    
    Note If Microsoft FRx Security is not required or will no longer be used, go to step 12.

    1. Click Admin, and then click Organization.

    2. Click FRx Security.

    3. Click Enable FRx Security.

    4. Click the correct security option. Use the screen shots that you took from Server A as a reference.

    5. Click OK to enable Microsoft FRx Security.

11. Exit Microsoft FRx Report Designer on Server B.

12. The Microsoft FRx 6.7 installation on Server B must be updated to the correct service pack level. The service pack level on Server B must be the same service pack level on Server A. To install the service pack, follow these steps:

    1. Confirm which service pack that is currently installed on Server A. To do this, follow these steps:

       1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to FRx 6.7, and then click Report Designer.

       2. Click Help, and then click About FRx.

       3. Note the release number that is displayed.

    2. Have all users exit Microsoft FRx on Server B.

    3. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer.

    4. In Windows Explorer, locate the SysData folder that you created.

    5. Make a backup copy of the SysData folder.

    6. Download the appropriate service pack for Microsoft FRx 6.7. You can compare the release number from Server A to the release numbers that are listed on the service pack download page. Download the service pack from one of the following Microsoft Web sites, depending on whether you are a partner or a customer.

    7. Install the service pack on Server B by using the installation instructions from the service pack download page.

13. Rename the .f32 files in the SysData folder on Server B. The .f32 files are the files that contain the report settings that are used for Microsoft FRx. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer.

    2. In Windows Explorer, locate the shared SysData folder on Server B.

    3. Right-click the first .f32 file, and then select Rename.

    4. Type a new file name. You can add an ".old" extension to the file names. For example, rename the file "FRxRpts.f32" to "FRxRpts.old."

    5. Repeat step c through step d for all .f32 files.

14. Copy the .f32 files from the SysData folder on Server A to the SysData folder on Server B. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. On Server A, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer.

    2. In Windows Explorer, locate the SysData folder.

    3. Click all the .f32 files.

    4. Click Edit, and then click Copy.
       

    5. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer.
       

    6. In Windows Explorer, locate the SysData folder on Server B.

    7. Click Edit, and then click Paste to insert the .f32 files that you copied.
       
       

15. Start Microsoft FRx on Server B to verify that the live reports are present. To do this, follow these steps:
    

    1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to FRx 6.7, and then click Report Designer.
       

    2. Click a company to which you can log on.

    3. Enter the logon ID and the password to access the company.
       

    4. Click Catalog of Reports, and then verify that the correct reports are displayed for the company.
