Microsoft has released a patch that eliminates a security vulnerability that could enable a malicious user to create a message attachment that could cause your e-mail program to shut down. Close all Programs Except Outlook Express

Verify that other programs are not running while you try to troubleshoot the error message. If the "invalid page fault" error message is resolved after you quit all other programs, the behavior may have occurred because of the interaction of Outlook Express with the other program. Use the following steps to close all programs in Windows Task Manager before you restart Outlook Express:

1. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to open the Task Manager

2. Click a running program, and then click End Task.

3. Repeat step 2 until the only programs that are running are Internet Explorer and Systray.

NOTE: On Windows 2000-based computer, use the Task Manager to close all applications.

How to Create a New Identity

When you create and use a new identity, you can determine if the error message occurs because of damage to the Outlook identity data. To create a new identity:

1. On the File menu, point to Identities, and then click Add New Identity.
   

2. In the Type your name box, type a name for the new identity.

3. Click OK, and then click Close.

How to Rename and Repair Damaged Files

If you think that one of more of the files that are listed in the "invalid page fault" error message are damaged, you can rename the file and then reinstall both Internet Explorer and Outlook Express.

Before you remove and reinstall Outlook Express, back up all of your data.
