This article describes update 4484219 for Microsoft Word 2016 that was released on January 7, 2020.

Be aware that the update in the Microsoft Download Center applies to the Microsoft Installer (.msi)-based edition of Office 2016. It doesn't apply to the Office 2016 Click-to-Run editions, such as Microsoft Office 365 Home (see What version of Office am I using?).

Improvements and fixes

This update fixes the following issues:

  • When you paste a Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path that contains a left or right single quotation mark ("U+2018" or "U+2019") in Microsoft Word or Microsoft Outlook, "U+2018" or "U+2019" is changed to "U+0027" in the address that is created by the automatic hyperlinks feature. The change in the character causes the hyperlink not to open the file from the UNC path.

  • When you create a meeting request that is based on an HTML email message in Outlook in the Chinese locale version of Windows 10, Chinese characters in the meeting request are displayed as overlapping.
