Applies ToSQL Server 2008

Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 R2 fix release.

Symptoms

A fix is available that improves the manageability of Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) 2008 R2 to support spatial types for SQL Azure. Since SQL Azure Service Update 3, SQL Azure databases support geometry and geography data types and methods. Additionally, SQL Azure databases now support spatial indexing. This fix improves the support for spatial types for SQL Azure databases in SSMS 2008 R2. For example, you can now access spatial data types and functions in Object Explorer. Additionally, you can create spatial indexes in SSMS.
