Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 R2 fix release.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You install Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) in the Datacenter edition of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2.

  • You try to configure a remote Microsoft SQL Server Database Engine database as the report server database by using Reporting Services Configuration Manager (RSConfigTool.exe)

In this scenario, you receive the following error message:

The feature: "Remote access to report data sources and/or the report server database" is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services.

Cause

This issue occurs because the RSConfigTool.exe tool does not detect the stock keeping unit (SKU) type information in the report servercorrectly. However, the SKU type information is required to check an SKU requirement before you can configure a remote database.
