Introduction
This article describes an update that is available to add support for testing the Product Update feature in Microsoft SQL Server "Denali" Community Technology Preview 3 (CTP3).
After you install Microsoft SQL Server "Denali" Community Technology Preview 3 (CTP3) by using the new files from Windows Server Update Service (WSUS), the build number field for Denali will be displayed as 11.0.1515.0 instead of 11.0.1440.19.

The functionality of SQL Server "Denali" CTP3 is not altered in the upgrade from 11.0.1440.19 to 11.0.1515.0.

To download SQL Server "Denali" CTP3, visit the following Microsoft website.
https://www.microsoft.com/betaexperience/pd/SQLDCTP3CTA/enus/In the installation process, you are prompted to update the setup files to a newer version from the Internet. If you click Yes, the newer version of the setup files are downloaded from the Internet and a new package is created to install the product on your computer. When the installation of SQL Server "Denali" CTP3 is complete, the build number field displays the 11.0.1515.0 build number instead of the 11.0.1440.19 build number.

The Product Update feature applies the latest product updates to the Setup process for SQL Server.
In the Setup process, the Product Update feature searches Microsoft Update, Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), a local folder, or a network share for applicable updates. After Setup for SQL Server locates the latest versions of applicable updates, it downloads and integrates them into the current Setup process for SQL Server. The updates might be a general distribution release (GDR), a cumulative update package, a service pack, or a service pack together with a cumulative update.
We recommend that you test the Product Update feature and its capabilities in SQL Server "Denali" CTP3. When you run the latest version of SQL Server "Denali" CTP3 or the latest release of the SQL Server "Denali" product, the SQL Server "Denali" CTP3 update package that is created by the Product Update feature has no new functionality or features. The 11.0.1515.0 build deploys the same binaries as the 11.0.1440.19 build. The update for the 11.0.1515.0 build uses the Product Update feature to start a process that applies a service pack or a cumulative update package.
