This hotfix also applies to Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Analysis Services (SSAS 2014).
Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:

You have a perspective together with a slicer that contains some tables in Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Analysis Services (SSAS 2012) or SQL Server 2014 Analysis Services (SSAS 2014). SSAS 2012 or SSAS 2014 is running in Tabular mode.

At least one table in the slicer contains no rows.

You update data in a Microsoft Excel 2010 or Excel 2013 worksheet that is sourced from the perspective.Or, you open an Excel 2010 or Excel 2013 workbook that contains a PivotTable for which the Refresh data when opening the file option is configured.
In this scenario, you receive the following error message:
A PivotTable, cube function or slicer using connection <conn> had failed to refresh.
Cause
This issue occurs because the perspective contains the table that contains no rows.
Resolution
The issue was first fixed in the following cumulative update of SQL Server.
Cumulative Update 1 for SQL Server 2014 /en-us/help/2931693
Cumulative update 6 for SQL Server 2012 SP1 /en-us/help/2874879
