This hotfix also applies to Microsoft SQL Server 2014.
Symptoms
Assume that you have Microsoft SQL Server 2012 PowerPivot for SharePoint 2013 add-in installed on a computer. After you apply Cumulative Update 7 for Microsoft SQL Server 2012, some PowerPivot workbooks cannot perform a data refresh operation in Microsoft SharePoint 2013. Additionally, the following error messages are logged in the SharePoint ULS log:Â

-
This issue typically occurs if the serialized length of the data refresh schedule is too short compared to the original length.
-
The issue also exists in SQL Server 2014.
Cause
This issue occurs because the Custom Properties on the Excel workbook are not correctly cleared before you set a new serialized schedule. This causes an extra custom property to remain after you set the new schedule. Therefore, the new schedule fails.
Resolution
Cumulative update information
The issue was first fixed in the following cumulative update of SQL Server.
Cumulative Update 1 for SQL Server 2014 /en-us/help/2931693
Cumulative Update 9 for SQL Server 2012 SP1 /en-us/help/2931078
Each new cumulative update for SQL Server contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous cumulative update. Check out the latest cumulative updates for SQL Server:
Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix Download Available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. Note If additional issues occur or if any troubleshooting is required, you might have to create a separate service request. The usual support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for this specific hotfix. For a complete list of Microsoft Customer Service and Support telephone numbers or to create a separate service request, visit the following Microsoft website:http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=supportNote The "Hotfix Download Available" form displays the languages for which the hotfix is available. If you do not see your language, it is because a hotfix is not available for that language.
Workaround
To work around this issue, follow these steps:
-
Open the workbook in Microsoft Excel 2013.
-
On the File menu, click Info.
-
Click Properties, and then click Advanced Properties.
-
In the Advanced Properties dialog box, click the Custom tab. Then, click each property in the Properties list that has a name that resembles pppDRSplitSchedulePrefix and is followed by a number.
Note Make sure that you click Delete to remove that property before you go to the next property. -
Click OK.
-
Resave the file to SharePoint. Or, save the file locally, and then upload it to SharePoint.
Status
