Assume that you create a natively compiled stored procedure with a query that contains a large expression that has more than 256 operators in Microsoft SQL Server 2014. When you try to use showplan_xml on the query or procedure, you receive the following error:

Msg 41322, Level 16, State 33, Procedure <sp_name>, Line <line_number>
MAT/PIT export/import encountered a failure for memory optimized table or natively compiled stored procedure with object ID <ID Number>in database ID <ID Number>. The error code was 0x88000015.

The issue occurs because of a defect in SQL Server 2014.

Each new cumulative update for SQL Server contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous cumulative update. Check out the latest cumulative updates for SQL Server:

To work around the issue, use the following workarounds:

  • Break the expressions into multiple sub-expressions.

  • Use parenthesis to explicitly force nesting of expressions to make a wide but shallow expression tree instead of a deeply nested expression tree.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
