Assume that you connect to Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or 2014 Analysis Services that is running on a non-default port, and SQL Browser is set to off. When you execute a cube creation Multidimensional Expressions (MDX) query, you may receive the following error message:
Executing the query ...
Either a connection cannot be made to the "ServerName\Instance" server, or Analysis Services is not running on the computer specified.
Errors in the OLE DB provider. An error occurred while named instance information was being retrieved from the SQLBrowser service on the 'ServerName' server.
Errors in the OLE DB provider. Could not connect to the redirector. Ensure that the SQLBrowser service is running on the 'ServerName' server.
The issue occurs because the incorrect code path is taken. A connection always tries to use the instance name format, which relies on SQL Browser.
After you apply the hotfix, set the value of LocalCubeServerPortInConnectionString to 1 to enable this feature in the SSAS configuration file.
