Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You use Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or SQL Server 2014 Master Data Services (MDS).

  • You have an attribute that contains a value with a special character (such as the "+" symbol) in an entity.

  • You define a business rule on this entity, and configure it to send an email notification when the validation fails.

In this scenario, the link in the notification email is broken and incorrect. For example, the "+" symbol is replaced by "%2b" which is incorrect. Therefore, the link cannot direct to the expected record within MDS.

Cause

This issue occurs because, when Silverlight retrieves the code value from QueryString collection, it calls UrlDecode. However, the value in the QueryString collection has already been decoded by MDS. Therefore, an unnecessary UrlDecode is performed.
