KB3170022 - Update lets SQL Server 2012 use all the user-mode virtual address space for a process

Summary

This update improves SQL Server 2012 by enabling SQL Server to use all the user-mode virtual address space for a process.

Note Before you install this update, the amount of virtual address space that is available to SQL Server is limited to 8 TB. However, starting in Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2, the user-mode virtual address space for each 64-bit process in 64-bit Windows is 128 TB.

Service pack information for SQL Server

This update is fixed in the following service pack for SQL Server:

Service Pack 4 for SQL Server 2012

Service packs are cumulative. Each new service pack contains all the fixes that are in previous service packs, together with any new fixes. Our recommendation is to apply the latest service pack and the latest cumulative update for that service pack. You do not have to install a previous service pack before you install the latest service pack. Use Table 1 in the following article for finding more information about the latest service pack and latest cumulative update.
