Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You install a non-English version of SQL Server 2016 by using the graphical user interface (GUI).

  • You use the Product Update feature to perform a slipstreamed installation.

  • You use the release version of SQL Server 2016 together with the GDR update.


In this scenario, the installation does not update the SQL Server Setup support files correctly. Additionally, you don't receive any error messages in this scenario.

Resolution

The fix for this issue is included in the following cumulative update for SQL Server:

Each new cumulative update for SQL Server contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous cumulative update. Check out the latest cumulative updates for SQL Server:

Workaround

To work around this issue, reinstall the GDR update.
