Symptoms

Microsoft SQL Server 2014 and 2016 may stop responding to client requests. This issue occurs when there are a significant number of SECURITY_CRYPTO_CONTEXT_MUTEX waits occurring. When you view the waits, their statistics may resemble the following.

Resolution

The fix for this issue is included in the following cumulative updates for SQL Server:

Cumulative Update 1 for SQL Server 2016

Cumulative Update 12 for SQL Server 2014 SP2
