Symptoms

Assume that you create a backup by using compression and checksum on a transparent data encryption (TDE) enabled database in Microsoft SQL Server 2016. In this scenario, you may fail to restore a database from the backup and receive error messages that resemble the following:

Msg 3183, Level 16, State 1, Line LineNumber

RESTORE detected an error on page (PageID) in database "DatabaseName" as read from the backup set.

Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line LineNumber

RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally.

Resolution

This issue is fixed in the following cumulative updates for SQL Server:

      Cumulative Update 7 for SQL Server 2016 RTM

      Cumulative Update 4 for SQL Server 2016 SP1
