When you run a sp_execute_external_script statement that has binary large object (BLOB) output parameter in parallel mode in Microsoft SQL Server 2016, you may notice that the execution may fail. Additionally, a dump file is generated by SQL Server. 


This issue is fixed in the following cumulative update for SQL Server:

        Cumulative Update 5 for SQL Server 2016 SP1

Note: After you install this update, if BLOB output parameter is used, the sp_execute_external_script statement cannot be executed in parallel mode.
