Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:

You use Microsoft SQL Server 2016 or SQL Server 2017.

Every few seconds you run a monitoring stored procedure that includes references to the Dynamic Management Fucntion (DMF) sys.dm_exec_query_statistics_xml, on a busy server.

The query_thread_profile extended event is in use, or Trace Flag (TF) 7412 is enabled.
In this scenario, you may notice that random access violations occur.
Resolution
This issue is fixed in the following cumulative updates for SQL Server:
