KB4465236 - FIX: Access violation occurs in compile code when you parse the forced plan in SQL Server 2016 and 2017

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You use Showplan XML for a forcing plan operation in SQL Server 2016 and 2017.

  • The remote query tag in the Showplan XML is larger than 8 kilobytes (KB) characters.

  • You try to parse the forced plan.

In this scenario, access violation may occur in compile code.

Resolution

This issue is fixed in the following cumulative updates for SQL Server:

      Cumulative Update 12 for SQL Server 2017

      Cumulative Update 4 for SQL Server 2016 SP2
