KB4486935 - FIX: Query results are not as expected when you run a particular query from Excel in SQL 2014 SP2 CU14 or later version (2016, 2017 or 2019)

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

• You have Master Data Services (MDS) for Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Service Pack 2 (SP2) Cumulative Update 14 (CU14) or later version (2016, 2017 or 2019) installed.

• You have the SQL Server 2014 MDS Add-in for Microsoft Excel installed.

• You run a particular query from Excel.

In this scenario, you will find that the query results are changed and not as expected. Additionally, it may break the behavior of Excel.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

Resolution

This issue is fixed in the following cumulative updates for SQL Server:

• Cumulative Update 14 for SQL Server 2017

• Cumulative Update 5 for SQL Server 2016 SP2
