Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have Master Data Services (MDS) for Microsoft SQL Server 2016 or 2017 installed.

  • You install the SQL Server 2016 or 2017 MDS Add-in for Microsoft Excel.

  • You open one workbook that's connected to MDS and make changes to MDS data, save and close the workbook.

In this scenario, when you open the workbook and try to publish the data, you will fail to publish and receive an error message that resembles the following:

"Active sheet does not contain MDS data."

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

Resolution

This issue is fixed in the following cumulative updates for SQL Server:
