Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:

You use Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Service Pack 2 Cumulative Update 6.

The new OLE DB provider (MSOLEDBSQL) is used.

You run a remote ad hoc query by using the OPENDATASOURCE function to connect to remote data from OLE DB data sources.

The query contains an error, for example, a reference to non-existing table.
In this scenario, you notice that an incorrect error message is displayed when the query fails.
