Applies ToSQL Server 2019 on Windows

Symptoms

Assume that you use SQL Server 2019 PolyBase and try to create an external data source connection to a Text file or an Excel file by using generic ODBC and the Microsoft Access Text Driver (*.txt, *.csv) or Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls, *.xlsx, *.xlsm, *.xlsb) that is included in Microsoft Access Database Engine Redistributable package. In this scenario, you notice that the connection may fail, and you may receive an error message that resembles the following:

Msg 105082, Level 16, State 1, Line LineNumber

105082;Generic ODBC error: [Microsoft][ODBC Excel Driver]Optional feature not implemented

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
