Cause
This issue may occur because the ReFS file system is not supported on removable media, including USB External drives. As part of the January 11, 2022 update, one of the fixes impacted the ability of these unsupported volumes to be mounted.
For more information about unsupported features in ReFS, see the The following features are unavailable on ReFS at this time table in the Resilient File System (ReFS) overview topic on the Microsoft Learn website.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, install the January 17, 2022 out-of-band update that is applicable for your Windows operating system. If you continue to experience this issue, contact Microsoft Support.
Note This resolution only applies to ReFS version 2 and later version volumes.
