Warning: The retired, out-of-support Internet Explorer 11 desktop application has been permanently disabled through a Microsoft Edge update on certain versions of Windows 10. For more information, see Internet Explorer 11 desktop app retirement FAQ.

Symptoms

In a Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) remote session, when you click the Close button to close Internet Explorer 10, the user interface of Internet Explorer 10 is closed. However, the IExplorer.exe process and the IExplorer.exe *32 process are still running on the Remote Desktop Services server. This behavior prevents the RDP session from closing on the client computer. After this issue occurs, a blank background screen is displayed on the client computer.
