Symptoms

When you install Microsoft Office 2010 or related updates, the setup does not respond. Additionally, the installation is not completed.

Cause

This issue may occur because of the print spooler service.

Workaround

To work around this issue, temporarily disable the print spooler service, try to install Office 2010 or related updates, and then restart the service. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Open program services console.

    • Windows 8

      1. Swipe in from the right side of the screen, and then tap Search. Or, if you using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and then click Search.

      2. Type services.msc from the Start screen and tap or click services in the list of results.

    • Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP

      • Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

  2. Look through the list of services, find Print Spooler, and open it.

  3. Tap or click Stop, and then tap or click OK.

  4. Try to install Office 2010 or related updates again.

  5. As soon as Office 2010 or related updates are installed on your PC, go back to the list of services and open Print Spooler.

  6. Tap or click Start, and then tap or click OK.

Note This issue may occur if you have an HP Officejet 4500 printer.
