Symptoms
After a Software Update Point (SUP) synchronization with Windows Software Update Services (WSUS) is complete, software updates that were previously successfully deployed are displayed as invalid in the Administrator Console in Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007. Specifically, the invalid software update icon (a red arrow) appears alongside the updates when you view the updates in the Deployment Management node of the Administrator Console. Additionally, these updates are no longer listed under the Deployment Packages node.
Cause
This issue may occur because of changes that were made to the Microsoft Update service in October 2012. These improvements contain metadata updates that affect all WSUS servers. These changes caused some updates to be marked as having a content change, even though the update binaries were not changed. For some administrators, the metadata changes may have been applied automatically when WSUS synchronized with the Microsoft Update servers in October. Other administrators received the changes by applying update 2734608 to their WSUS servers.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, install this hotfix package on primary and secondary System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 site servers.
After you apply this hotfix, an update that contains a change only to metadata and not to file contents will not cause the update to be displayed as invalid. This hotfix will not update the status of updates that were previously marked as invalid. However, you can re-download these updates by using the Download Software wizard from the Software Updates node of the Administrator Console. To identify updates that display the invalid software update icon, you can create a new search folder. To do this, use the following object properties when you create the search folder:-
Deployed=Yes
-
Downloaded=No
Additionally, you must have the Search all folders under this feature check box selected.
After you run the query, verify that only the invalid software updates are returned. You can select the updates and then download them again directly from the results window. You can put the updates into the original deployment packages, if these are known. Alternatively, you can put the updates into a new deployment package. Active deployments will be automatically updated to recognize the revised download status of the updates.
