Recording is done exclusively in Dragon Copilot embedded in Epic Rover. Speak your observations during patient interactions—Dragon Copilot captures the conversation ambiently and converts it into draft flowsheet entries in real time.

Important: Patient consent must be obtained ahead of ambient usage. Always follow your organization’s guidelines to obtain patient consent before using Dragon Copilot.

Record from Epic Rover

After following your organization’s consent policy, use Epic Rover to start ambient recording with Dragon Copilot.

  • Locate the patient and begin a new recording.

  • If auto-start is enabled, recording begins automatically; otherwise, tap Record at the bottom of the screen.

  • A timer will display and count upward while recording is active. Maximum duration: 75 minutes.

Begin with quick, on-the-go voice entries for mobile documentation during rounding. As your comfort grows, expand to include more flowsheet observations.

You can view all documentable rows in each active template while you record. Expand or collapse template cards, review grouped empty rows (including LDA rows with prior documentation), and keep your selections even when you move away from the screen.

Document LDAs with Dragon Copilot

Use Dragon Copilot to record insertions, assessments, and removals of lines, drains, airways, and wounds (LDAs). While recording, clearly state the type and location of each LDA. Relevant details from your verbal input will automatically populate the LDA assessment.

You can document with the following familiar product names, which automatically map to their formal clinical terms:

  • Foley or Foley catheter: indwelling urethral catheter

  • Hep lock or heparin lock: peripheral IV

  • JP drain or Jackson-Pratt drain: closed/suction drain

  • Hemovac: closed/suction drain

  • Purewick: external urinary catheter. When verbalizing Purewick, specify “male” or “female” to map to the correct gender.

Pause and resume

To add incremental documentation or address interruptions while recording, use the pause and resume feature.

Pause: Tap Pause next to the timer. The timer stops, and the action changes to Resume. (You can navigate away if necessary. See Rover instructions.)

Resume: Tap Resume to continue recording. The timer picks up where it left off, adding to the total time.

You can pause and resume multiple times, up to 60 minutes total.

Note: A recording can remain paused for up to 60 minutes. After that, it will be marked as completed. If you return after the 60-minute limit, you’ll need to start a new recording.

Guide tab

Access the Guide tab anytime during an active or paused recording. It provides visual flowsheet guidance to help you complete documentation more accurately.

Default flowsheet entries include:

  • Body system

  • Vital signs

  • Pain

  • Daily care/Safety

  • Mobility

Note:  Your organization may customize these entries to match its specific flowsheet structure.

Preview tab

During recording: When recording starts, the Preview tab displays ambient-enabled flowsheets and active LDAs for the patient.

When paused: When the recording is paused, verbalized observations populate on the Preview tab. Any template with extracted observations moves to the top and opens automatically, giving you a faster, clearer view of what you captured and what still needs documentation.

Review and confirm details, then resume recording as needed to fill gaps or add missing information.

The Stop button lets you skip the preview at any time—during recording or while it’s loading—giving you full control to proceed without viewing it.

Complete recording

Select Stop to complete the recording and send results to the appropriate flowsheets in your EHR.

If you’ve completed multiple Dragon Copilot recordings for a session (pause and resume), you will be able to review the AI output as a consolidated session in the EHR.
