Symptoms

Assume that a drive is encrypted by BitLocker on a computer that is running Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012. When you run Disk Defragmenter on the drive, the computer may crash. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

STOP: 0x00000019 (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)

Notes

  • This issue occurs more frequently when the drive is also configured to use the Storage Spaces feature.

  • This Stop error describes a BAD_POOL_HEADER issue.

  • The parameters in this Stop error message vary, depending on the configuration of the computer.

  • Not all "Stop 0x00000019" errors are caused by this issue.

Cause

This issue occurs because the BitLocker driver (Fvevol.sys) does not correctly allocate the size of an output buffer in an I/O request packet (IRP). Therefore, the Classpnp.sys process tries to zero out the output buffer incorrectly.
